W. David DiCicco, 96, of Auburn, passed away Saturday, October 4th in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home. His wife, Rita T. (Venditti) DiCicco, died in 2001. He leaves several nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces and his companion, Barbara Dupsha of Oxford. He was predeceased by his siblings, Alphonso, George, Theodore, and John DiCicco, Isabella Belsito-McCurn, Anna Kusek, Rena Buffone, and Mary Buffone. He was born in Worcester, the son of Gaetano and Candelora (Eramo) DiCicco and moved to Auburn in 1966, where he owned and operated Dave DiCicco’s Mobil Service Station for 30 years, retiring in 1982. Mr. DiCicco was a member of St. Peter’s Parish, Worcester, and the Auburn/Webster Elks. He was an avid woodworker and restorer of antique cars. Mr. DiCicco’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home for the compassionate care they provided for David. The funeral is Wednesday, October 8th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester, with a Mass at 11:00 A.M. in St. Peter’s Church, 931 Main Street, Worcester. AUBURN/DUDLEY – Richard W. Lindgren, 80, passed away on Sunday, October 12th. Rick’s wife of 56 years, Patricia H. Frink, died in 2011. He leaves behind his son, Richard R. and his wife Maureen of Dudley; his granddaughter, Marissa and her husband Domenic of West Boylston; his sister, Lillian “Bae” Milley of Shrewsbury; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Albert “Boo” Lindgren. Rick was born in Worcester. Following graduation from Commerce High School, he joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served aboard the U.S.S. LST 883 during the Korean War. Rick worked as a butcher for over 28 years at the former Anderson & Sundquist Market. He was a 50 year member of the Matthew John Whittall Lodge A.F. & A. AUBURN-Helen M. (Garabedian) Mikitarian, 77, of Auburn, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Saint Vincent Hospital with her loving family at her side. She leaves her beloved husband of 58 years, George “Mickey” Mikitarian, Sr., and their four children; George Mikitarian, Jr., his wife Liz and their son, George “Mickey” Mikitarian, III all of Titusville, FL, Michael G. Mikitarian of Shrewsbury, MA, John Mikitarian and wife Celeste of Northborough, and their sons, Joseph, David and Benjamin, and daughter Irene M. Harris of Worcester, and her daughters Courtney Sage and Nicole Sage Carpenter. She also leaves a sister Mary (Maro) Dionisopoulos and husband Spiros of Lincoln, RI, two brothers Charles H. Garabedian and wife Sally of Smithfield, RI, and Aram Garabedian and wife Jane of Cranston, RI; a sister-in-law Rosemarie Mikitarian of Worcester; and several nephews and nieces. Helen was born in Providence, RI on August 7, 1937, daughter of Harry “Harootun” and Irene (Aroosiag) Garabedian, and graduated from Hope High School in Providence, RI in 1955. She and George married in 1956 and they relocated to Worcester. Helen was a stay at home mom for 18 years before going out into the work world. She worked for Day Brothers Inc. and Day Truck Rental from 1974 to 1992. She then held various positions, including corporate controller, at Ragsdale Motor Group from 1992 to 2005. Helen’s children and grandchildren were the greatest joys in her life. She was always so proud of their accomplishments and success. She gave and taught them unconditional love. Her favorite saying was, “what goes around, comes around”, which certainly proved so right for all the love, generosity, and care she received in return from all of them. She was truly a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all those who knew her. The funeral will be held on Monday, October 20 from CALLAHAN~FAY & CASWELL FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester with a Service at 11:00 am in Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury Street, Worcester. Patricia A. Topalian, 73, of Auburn died Sunday, October 19th in UMass Memorial Medical Center – Memorial Campus in the company of her three grandsons. Her husband of 32 years, Garabed J. Topalian died in 2007. She leaves three grandsons whom she raised, Robert Smith of Brooklyn, NY, Matthew Topalian of Clinton and Christopher Topalian of Auburn; a brother, Ronald T. “Terry” Grady, Sr. of Auburn and a sister, Eva G. Nowalski of Worcester. She was predeceased by a sister, Dora Orcutt. She was born in Brooks, Maine the daughter of Ronald G. and Elizabeth A. (Pollard) Grady and graduated from South High School. After retiring Patricia worked with the elderly caring for them in their homes. She enjoyed playing cribbage, watching old movies and going to karaoke with her mother. He served his country proudly in WWII as a member of the US Army. He was highly decorated for his service in the European Theatre. Mr. Reed worked for the Worcester Regional Transit Authority as a street inspector for many years prior to retiring. Donald F. White, 71, of Auburn, died Sunday, October 19th at Providence Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. He was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, son of the late Robert A. and Helen (Lannon) White. He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Mary Ann (Paladino) White of Auburn; his beloved daughter, Ashley (White) Jordan of Lexington, South Carolina; his favorite son in law, Jayson Jordan of Lexington, South Carolina; his loving nephews, Brian White of Spencer, Robert White of Auburn, John White of Northbridge and his sister in law, Lee Duprey of Dudley. His brother, Robert predeceased him in 2006. Don was a graduate of South High School, Worcester. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Worcester State College, Worcester. He was a dedicated and beloved educator within the Southbridge public school system for 40 years. His students will fondly remember the annual 1950s celebration, where they dressed up in poodle skirts and saddle shoes and went head-to-head with other classrooms in hula hooping, singing, and twist competitions. Don served in the Army Reserves for 6 years and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Auburn. Don was an avid sports fan and made sure to watch all of the New England teams. He was also a Clemson Tigers fan and loved to support his daughter’s alma mater. He enjoyed playing golf with his nephews and friends. Playing tennis with his daughter was one of his favorite pastimes. He loved vacationing at Cape Cod and in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. He enjoyed spending time with his family and lifelong friends, especially the Main South Legends. Don was a wonderful man with a witty sense of humor who could make anyone laugh. He was a man who truly adored his wife and daughter. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Jerry Robinson and the staff at Providence Hospital for the outstanding care he received. Stanley F. Santor, 82, of Auburn, died Monday in Millbury Healthcare Center after a period of declining health. He is predeceased by his wife Natalie (Gardner) and his daughter Sheila Prendiville. He is survived by his son Scott Santor, and his wife Susan, of Spencer, and a granddaughter Shawna Pizzarella and her husband Lenny, of Spencer, and a sister Phyllis Johnson of Dover, NH. Stanley was born in Worcester. He was the son of the late Stanley and Mae (Sczepanski) Santor. He was a graduate of Auburn High School. Mr. Santor owned and operated Scott Ambulance Co. for many years, and later McAvoy Ambulance Co. the Huguenot Restaurant, and Maury’s Deli prior to retiring in the early 2000’s Stanley was a US Army Veteran, servicing in the Korean War. He enjoyed discussing the news topics of the day, sports and spending time with his family and friends, especially Louise Moody and Michael Lannon. He was a member and past president of the Century Sportsman’s Club and the Auburn Sportsman’s Club, and was a longtime member of the Auburn Fire Department. Dorothy (Blanchard) Ritchie, 90, formerly of Lexington, died on October 25, 2014 in the Millbury Healthcare Center. Mrs. Ritchie was married for 66 years to Arthur D. Ritchie, who died in January 2014. She is survived by a daughter, Carol L. Ritchie of Nashua, NH: a son, Richard A. Ritchie and his wife, Katherine of Douglas; two grandchildren, Daniel Ritchie of Auburn and Brian Ritchie and his wife, Krysten of Coral Gables, FL; one great grandchild, Callie Ritchie. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Blanchard of California, and several nephews and a niece. Dorothy graduated from the California College of Business in 1944, and worked as a bookkeeper in Berkley, California, until she met the love of her life, Arthur Ritchie, a Navy meteorologist, who persuaded her to move back to his home town of Lexington, MA. They were married in 1947 at Park Street Church in Boston, on her birthday. She later worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for several small businesses in the Lexington area, but taking care of her family was the job she loved most. An early member of Grace Chapel in Lexington, she was a loving Christian woman who always took time to help others that were sick or in need of assistance. In her retirement years, she drove her “elderly” friends and church members to many of their doctor’s appointments. Her passions in life were word games & puzzles, going to the beach, making elaborate vacation plans, and keeping beautiful gardens around her home, where she spent hours. The family would like to thank the staff of the Millbury Healthcare Center and the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice for the dedicated and compassionate care they provided to Dorothy in the final months of her life. Mrs. Simulynas worked for many years at the Yankee Drummer/Ramada Inn in Auburn as the Head of Housekeeping. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing tennis, and watching the Boston Red-Sox. Gina Olson Haggett, of Shrewsbury, MA, recently passed away peacefully in her daughter’s home in Framingham, where she had resided for the past six years. She was 93 years old. Gina leaves her daughter Sigrid Shiotani Paddock and her husband Timothy C. Paddock, of Framingham, and daughter Karen DiLiddo, of Shrewsbury. She also leaves her grandchildren, Gina Shiotani of San Diego, CA, Jamie DiLiddo and her partner Danny Leinweber of Shrewsbury, Nicole DiLiddo of Framingham, and Sarah Le Beau of Revere. Gina left three great granddaughters, who gave her great pleasure in her final years, Anabelle and Lilah Brady of Framingham, and Sophia Garcia of Revere. Gina was born in Newry, Maine, the second to youngest of 9 siblings. Her parents were Ole Olson from Norway, and Matilda Fortier. Gina outlived her husband, James Haggett, and all her siblings, but leaves many nieces and nephews in Maine and some cousins in Norway, with whom she has kept in touch. Maine was always “home” to Gina, and her family there were fondly remembered her whole life. Gina attended Woodstock High School in Woodstock, ME and was class Salutarian. Before marriage, she worked at Barjo Restaurant in Norway, ME, and at the ration board during the war. After her marriage to James E. Haggett, of Norway, ME, the couple moved to Boston, MA, where Gina supported the family doing secretarial work while her husband attended MIT. They later moved to Worcester when James took a position with Norton Co. After the birth of their two daughters, the Haggetts moved to Shrewsbury, where 5 years later, Gina started a small kindergarten in her home. As her school grew, she expanded it to a preschool/kindergarten and rented space for her school in the Mt. Olivet Church in Shrewsbury. All her life, Gina loved children and working with these children was her calling. In the early 70’s, her husband accepted a position managing Norton Co’s East Asian operations in Japan, and James and Gina moved to Tokyo. During the 7 years they resided in Tokyo, Gina explored hobbies such as oil painting, Ikebana (the art of Japanese flower arrangement) and Kamakura Bori (Japanese woodcarving.) She also gave private English lessons. Gina and her husband traveled extensively, in Asia (Japan, South Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, Guam and Saipan), Europe (the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Russia) and to Australia. The Haggetts returned home to Shrewsbury in 1978, where Gina focused on restoring their home and gardens. She resumed her old hobbies, gardening, golf, bridge, bowling and knitting and other handicrafts. Jim and Gina joined the Japan Society of Boston. After the passing of her husband in 1992, Gina played cards at the senior center in Shrewsbury until moving to Framingham in August, 2008. Auburn – Mr. Raymond Desroches, 86, passed away Monday November 3rd at the Life Care Center of Auburn with his family by his side. Raymond leaves a son, John Desroches and his wife Kathy of Oxford, a daughter, Maria Gerrol and her husband Daniel of Auburn; four brothers, Gabriel Desroches of England, Paul Desroches and his wife Pauline of Ct., Eugene Desroches of Bellingham, and Robert Desroches and his wife Joanne of Fl., three sisters, Lorraine Mazzola of Worcester, Claire Wirf of West Brookfield, and Evelyn Roberts of Leicester; two grandchildren, Jennifer Smith and Edwin Lynds III, three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Raymond was born September 17, 1928 in Worcester, Massachusetts a son of the late Alphonse and Ferdinand (Prefontaine) Desroches. Loving husband to the late Rita M. (Chronchio) Desroches who passed away in 2011. A lifelong resident, Raymond was educated through the Worcester Schools. He served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return he worked for over thirty years at Wright Line as a spot welder retiring in 1990. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Loreto Church and a former member of the Froshian Club. The family would like to express their gratitude for the wonderful care their father received at the Life Care Center of Auburn. He grew up in the Morningdale section of Boylston and moved to Shrewsbury 58 years ago and lived on Oval Drive for 51 of those years. He worked for Joseph A. Polito & Sons Construction Company for 37 years. Charlie’s wife of 58 years Anne Marie (Fyrbeck) passed away in May of 2013. He is survived by his loving daughter, Dawn Vigliatura and her husband, Edward of Shrewsbury, his three sons; Scott and his girlfriend, Georgia Mongeon of Worcester, Kevin and his wife, Elizabeth of Charlton and Mark of Shrewsbury who devoted the last 5 years of his life to care for both Charles and Anne. - Marie C. (Morin) DiPilato, 76,lifelong resident of Auburn died Friday, November 7, 2014 in the Life Care Center of Auburn surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Marie leaves her friend and husband of 57 years, Frank J. DiPilato; a son, John F. DiPilato of Thompson, Ct, a daughter, Ann M. Taylor and her husband, Richard of Worcester; four grandchildren, Jessica Joslyn, Kerri Charbonneau, Garrett and Madison DiPilato; two great grandchildren, Faith and Michael Joslyn; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five brothers, Edgar, Wilfred, Leo, Norman and Robert Morin and a sister, Lucille Kennedy. She was born and raised in Auburn, daughter of the late Wilfred and Corrine L. (Martin) Morin. She graduated from Auburn High School and then entered the nursing program at The David Hale Fanning Trade School in Worcester. Marie was a Licensed Practical Nurse for over thirty years at Saint Vincent Hospital; she later practiced at CMMIC for ten years before she retired. After retiring, she and her husband, Frank traveled extensively throughout the continental United States and Europe. In addition to her work in the nursing field, she also enjoyed golfing and held a membership at the Westborough County Club. Bowling was another enjoyment that Marie had however, times spent with her family and friends were the most cherished moments. She was a member of the Saint Joseph’s Parish in Auburn. Her family would like to offer their gratitude to the entire staff at Central Mass Hospice, especially to Lynn Cady, RN, who was extraordinary with her compassion, kindness and caring to Marie and her family through this difficult time. Auburn – Francis X. Norsigian, 76, of Auburn, died peacefully in his home on Monday, November 10th while surrounded by his family after a very short illness. Frank was married for 33 years to Veronica (Mieleski) Norsigian who died in 1993. He is survived by his two daughters, Dorothy Berard of Sutton and Veronica “Bonnie” Keith of Auburn; two grandchildren, Paul and Monica Keith both of Auburn; two brothers, Charles Norsigian of Millbury and Robert Norsigian of Worcester; two sisters, Rita Bovenzi of Worcester and Alice Gadbois of Murfreesboro, TN; his longtime companion, Dianne Fournier of Auburn and her children and grandchildren. Mr. Norsigian also leaves behind many nephews and nieces. Frank was born in Worcester, son of the late Harry and Alice (Lehane) Norsigian and is also predeceased by two brothers, Harry and William Norsigian and a sister, Aileen Norsigian. Mr. Norsigian is a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade High School and worked as a mechanic for Master Wheel and Transmission for 16 years and then worked for the Wyman Gordon Co. in the vehicle maintenance department for many years until his retirement. Frank enjoyed a variety of things during his lifetime, mostly spending time with family and friends, as well as, telling jokes, playing Keno, and watching his beloved Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Mr. Norsigian was also a car enthusiast and an avid coin collector. The funeral will be held on Friday, November 14th from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St., Worcester with a Mass at 10 AM in Saint Joseph’s Church 198 North Oxford Street. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are on Thursday, November 13th from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home. Arline Rayner
AUBURN-Arline W. (Waite) Rayner, 97, of Charlton, formerly of Auburn, died Tuesday November 11, 2014 in the Overlook Masonic Health Center after a period of declining health. Her husband of 55 years, Norman A. Rayner, died in 1996. She is survived by her nieces; Marjorie Whittemore of Gardener, Alison VanBrocklin of Richmond, NH, Mary Abbott, of Amherst, nephews; Peter Waite of Casco, ME, and Daniel Waite of Westbrook, ME, and grandnieces, grandnephews, and great grandnieces and great grandnephews. Arline was born in Worcester. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Florence (Chew) Waite. She is a graduate of Beverly High School, and Worcester State College, where she received her BS in Education. Mrs. Rayner was a teacher of Mathematics in New Hampshire and New Jersey. She later worked as a designer of ophthalmic Lenses at American Optical in Southbridge for 20 years before returning to the classroom as an adult educator in Auburn, Worcester and Petersham. She was active member of her faith community as a longtime member of Pakachoag UCC, in Auburn. She joined the church by transfer from Dane St. Church in Beverly in 1958. She served as a former president and director of the Worcester Area Mission Society. She was a former precinct representative as Auburn Town Meeting Member. She was a member of the Embroiderer’s Guild of America; a needlepoint stocking she stitched hung on the Christmas Tree in the Blue Room of the White House in 1996. She was an Overseer of Old Sturbridge Village, and a former member of the Green Mountain Club, and the Appalachian Mountain Club. A graveside service will be held on Saturday November 15, 2014 at 9 AM in Hillside Cemetery. A service celebrating her life will be held at 10 AM Saturday in Pakachoag Church, 203 Pakachoag St. in Auburn. There are no calling hours.
